A Day Late...

I know I'm late, but we had a busy day yesterday! We opened presents in the morning, and I got 2 new stuffed toys and a new brush... I shed a lot. Daddy is actually at home and Granny's here with us visiting... and even better, Uncle Andrew and Aunt Rebecca came over and had Christmas dinner with us. It was great! And I got some turkey... again!! A really great Christmas... even though I'm still waiting to bust that Santa character coming down the chimney.

I hope all my friends, including the 2-legged hyoomuns, had a wonderful Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or whatever you my celebrate.

Thanksgiving

I hope everyone had a great Turkey Day! I actually got to have some turkey, and it was quite yummy. =)

Mom saw this article and asked if she could post it on my blog. It's about a pug, and she thinks it's a great story and that everyone can learn from it. The link to the original article is included...

Thanksgiving from Popeye the Pug

Every cloud has a silver lining. It’s always darkest before the dawn. Popeye the Pug never heard these sayings — but he knew them instinctively.
At 16 years old, deaf and blind, Popeye wandered in pouring ran for three days and nights. He never gave up looking for his family.

Popeye was finally picked up by a good Samaritan and taken to the police station, where he was reunited with his family.
We can all learn from this little pug — that the only thing that matters in this life is home and love of family, and never, ever give up.

Blame mom, not me...

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a really long time... LONG time... but mom has been really busy. She HAS to help me type or else I'd be here all darn day trying to type one word!!

She's got this school thing she does, and works... but she ALWAYS makes time for MEMEME!! She always drives home between work and class to take me outside and feed me. She said she doesn't care - she loves me.

Daddy is home right now, so he'll be home for Turkey Day!! YAY!! Then he leaves... but he'll be home for Christmas!!! Another big YAY!! We're going to Aunt Becca and Uncle Andrew's house for Thanksgiving. Yes, WE... ALL of us, so it will be fun! Mom always gives me a little turkey, as long as it has nothing bad for doggies in it. Do people put chocolate on turkey?

Daddy comes home next week!

Yay! I can't wait to see Daddy! He's been gone for a really long time, it seems like. Mommy sends him pictures to his phone sometimes, but it just ain't the same. I need one of daddy's belly rubs!

Please help Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue (MAPR)!

So, mom got this email from MAPR this morning and wanted to post it here on my blog, since I'm a pug and all. Neither one of us like to see fellow puggies not getting the help they need. MAPR is a GREAT rescue organization, so if you can spare a little bit of money to help with vet costs, that'd be great. I know mom said I'd have to lay off the treats for a bit... I can do that if it will help these pugs.

Here's the link and some information:

http://www.fundable.com/groupactions/groupaction.2008-09-01.3541920509/groupaction_view

Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue has recently been hit very hard with surrenders and shelter pulls. We have over 65 dogs in foster care including several who are in very poor shape. Since August 15, MAPR has taken in the following special needs medical cases and we need your help! For those who have never participated in a Fundable fund drive before, if we don't raise our entire goal of $6,051 by 9/27, all pledges will be refunded and MAPR won't receieve anything. So, please help us meet our goal!

Kyle (see image) was found as a stray and ended up in a shelter in TN, where MAPR found him. He has almost no fur on his body and has a horrible skin infection with open wounds, an ear infection, eye problems, and a mouth full of rotten and infected teeth. He needs at least two surgeries- a compete dental overhaul with multiple extractions and sugery on at least one of his eyes. He will need many weeks of care but all of his current issues are correctable and with plenty of TLC, Kyle will be a new man again soon. Even with some generous discounts from our partner vet, we expect his vet bills to be at least $2,000 by the time he gets all the care he needs.

Read more on the Fundable website. If they don't get all the money they need, they get nothing.

My Granny left yesterday...

My Granny came up a few days before daddy left so her and Mom could go see something called the Lion King... ?? Don't know what that is, but Mom said it was pretty cool. Anywoof, Granny went home last night and I really, really miss her. She takes great care of me, lays with me on the sofa, sneaks me an extra treat when Mom isn't watching and makes me toys! Isn't that what humans are supposed to do for their grandpugs?

My daddy is gone, too. He's going to school, or something. I don't know why - he's pretty smart to me, but Mom says he had to go for work. So, I miss him, too! I've been hit with a double whammy and I don't know how much more my poor little pug heart can take. At least momma is here... but I'm so sad when she goes to work.

I hope everyone had a good Labor Day. I hung out with my momma and Granny. It was fun!

I'm kinda sad...

Well, Dad's out of town... and now Mommy is leaving me tomorrow! She's going to Hawaii to meet Daddy, even though he's working. And she's taking Granny with her! My other Granny is coming up here to stay with me while they're gone... but I wanna go. How come I can't go?

I know Mommy & Daddy will miss me just as much as I miss them, but I really miss them when they're gone. At least I'll be at my house this time, so that helps a little bit.

I hope they have fun...

This is how sad I am:

Hi Everyone!

I haven't written in awhile... I've just been a lazy pug. But we all deserve it sometimes, right?

I just added a new banner to the site, if you could please click on it and check out the page, I'd greatly appreciate it. It's about a dog named Gage, a pit bull, that was shot by a neighbor. I never met him... mom didn't either... but his story makes me and mom very, very sad.

They have a petition, so at the very least, if you could sign it... Gage deserves justice. NO DOG should ever have to die that way, but mommy says it happens all the time. We just don't hear about it that much.

Thanks so much,
Sitka

Mom here...

I can't believe that it's Monday - and I still miss those pug girls terribly!! I wish they were still here. Not because Sitka isn't enough for me - she's a handful sometimes, I can assure you. But ever since Sitka came into our lives, it has made me realize how much I love dogs, how much I had missed having one in my life for so long, and how much joy pets can bring to us. Sitka gives me way more than I could possibly give her - I just want her to be a happy dog. And the keyword there is dog, because that's what she is, first and foremost. All dogs should be able to play with that forbidden shoe, just once. They should be able to bury a bone out in the yard, just once. They should be taken for walks and released in a big open field, where there's no fear of them running out in front of a car or being stolen right out from under your nose, where they can run, run, run. And they should be allowed to sleep wherever they want to sleep, because more than likely that place will be snuggled up right next to their humans.

When my husband first said he wanted a pug, I kept thinking why. Even though I love all animals, some folks just don't think they're that cute. I wasn't completely sold on their cuteness, and could think of other breeds and/or mutts that were much cuter. But, then he brought her home, all 2.9 lbs. of her... and I was in love. I've taken care of her, trained her, pampered her, scolded her, walked her... she even knows certain words, like cheese (we can't even say that in the house - it has to be "dairy product"), do you want to go for a ride (or just "do you want to go"), treat, cookie, eat, hungry... yes, mostly food keywords, but she is a pug, right? She has given me laughs after I've had the most terrible day, with no one home to listen to me whine. She listens... and licks my face. How can you beat that?

Having those other pugs here made me realize what special little dogs they truly are. They are so people oriented... neither one of them could get enough of me, and honestly I couldn't get enough of them. I wanted to spend as much quality time with them as possible since their time here was so short. So, I fell in love with the breed even more. I saw how much Sitka enjoyed having someone to play with and run through the house, how exhausted she was yesterday and how whenever she was up, she would go to the crate in the bedroom where they slept, looking for her 2 friends.

I'm not sure how or why I got so attached to them. Maybe it's the mother inside of me that will never have children, I don't know. But, every time I look at their photos, I know how much I wish they were still here. I know they're going to be well taken care of at their rescue in VT and will eventually go to wonderful homes. Even so, I can't help but miss them. There's nothing like having a pug snort in your ear... trust me.

Sitka was bought from a small breeder - NOT a puppy mill, I was at this man's home, and he takes great care of all the pugs at his property. In fact, our vet said we had the "perfect pug". She opened my eyes to the world of animals who don't have homes and go through unspeakable things at the hands of humans. Whenever we DO get another pug, he/she will be a rescue, NOT from a breeder. There are too many out there that need loving homes.

I miss those girls...

Well, I had a blast last night! We were running and playing and just being dogs. Mom found out they both came from the same puppy mill, so they probably never had a chance to have much fun or be real pugs! I really miss them today, even though I'm pooped and have been sleeping most of the day. I was a really good girl for mommy, too. She said so!

Mom took good care of them while they were here. She bought them some toys and got Gracie (6-month old puppy) a collar, because it didn't look like she had one. Well, she did, but she could wiggle out of it easily - and mom didn't like that! She also had to get something for Crissy's eyes, which she was a little stressed about because she didn't know what to get. All the vets offices were closed and they didn't have anything at Petsmart. So, she got some eye stuff for people and used that. I don't know how Crissy did it, but she stayed super still while mom put that stuff in her eyes. I can't do that - not even to get my ears or wrinkles cleaned! Mom said she hoped it made her eyes feel a little bit better. She gave us all a bunch of loving, too. They slept in a crate - mom put a TON of blankets in there. She felt bad doing it, but told me that wherever they go, they might not get to sleep in the people bed like me, and she thought I might get upset. But, she made sure they were comfortable and gave them some towels for pillows.

Oh, mom said she wants to type, so she can add the pictures, so here she is! Pug Hugs!!

Mom here! These girls were so great... and I truly miss them. They were easy to take care of and played together, even though Crissy had limited vision. She did pretty well getting around. Little Gracie followed me everywhere and would sit at my feet when her legs/hips got too tired. But she was running and playing with Sitka all night, so I know she HAD to be tired!! I dropped them off this morning, and they are almost to their temporary foster in CT. Those girls deserve the best home ever.

Here's the photos I took, and one that was taken of me by the lady who drove them to Baltimore this morning:

Not sure what to think...

Well, if you read my blog very often you know that my mommy tries to help animals whenever she can. She does all kinds of stuff... well, she did before she started going to that school thing. But she used to drive transports, set-up transports for dogs she never even met, post for dogs that needed a home or someone to come save them... and she used to work with a pit bull rescue. It got to be too much for her, I guess.

So, she said she got an email thingy yesterday about a transport and some dogs needing somewhere to stay overnight, because it's such a LONG trip. Well, guess what? There's two girl pugs on it - and they needed a place to stay. So, I guess we'll have some puggy company tomorrow night. Mom asked me to be a good girl and help her with them. Their names are Chrissy and Gracie; one of them is blind and one of them has some hip problems, so she'll have her hands full. I guess she'll have to carry them outside to go potty, but she said she doesn't mind. If they didn't have a place to stay, they wouldn't be able to get to a safe place. Mom would DIE if that happened!

I'll see if I can get her to post some pictures of them on my blog tomorrow or the next day. And I'm really going to try to be a really good girl. I'm not used to having other dogs in the house... and I get upset about my food and stuff, but mom says she can handle that and feed us all separately if she has to.

Well...

It wasn't so bad without mom & dad. They let me stay with Auntie Rebecca and Uncle Andrew and they took great care of me. In fact on the first night, Uncle Andrew laid down with me until I fell asleep, because I was whining and missing my humans. They hung out with me and took me for all kinds of walks. I still wish I coulda gone to New York, but it ended up being fun and not such a big deal.

Mommy got to see her first Broadway Musical - The Little Mermaid. She said it was so wonderful and she was so excited to have been able to see it in NYC. If you want to see some previews, here's the link: http://disney.go.com/theatre/thelittlemermaid/index.html#video. Make sure you have a fast connection, cause it's S-L-O-W.

Then, this summer they're going to see The Lion King at the Kennedy Center. Mom can't wait for that one either! It's another one of her fave Disney movies - yeah, Mom's a big kid at heart.

Until next time, pug hugs and kisses!!

New York!

Guess what?!? Mom & Dad are going to New York... and they are NOT taking me with them! I've been there before, so that's OK. But they're actually going somewhere without ME! They're going to leave me in good hands - Auntie Rebecca and Uncle Andrew - but without ME?!? What's a pug to do????

All these poor doggies...

So, me & mom were looking at pugs on Petfinder tonight. She says if there's any pugs in a shelter, they're usually picked up by a rescue really fast, but she still likes to check just in case. Not that we can add to the zoo here, but if there's one that needs saving, she'll get to it. Yes, I started it... and she does the same thing with pit bulls, and any other dog that grabs at her heart, which is most of them.

So, back to the whole point of my story. She says she looks at me, and how cute I am (of course), and can't understand why people dump their dogs in shelters, or don't take care of them, let them run loose, starve or beat them... she just don't get it. So, for those reading my little blog among all the other tons of blogs, if you have a pet, love on it and take care of it, please? And if for some reason you can't take care of that pet anymore, try to find a rescue to take him/her. The chance of them making it out of a shelter alive are very slim, even if YOU think someone will adopt it pretty fast. Just don't work that way...

I'm going to hang out with my momma...

Friday, February 22, 2008

So...

Me & mom were just looking through my blog here... and I noticed there's a couple of photos of me eating ice cream. So, do you think I like the stuff? In fact, dad brought some ice cream to mom tonight. Did I get any? NO! But, mom said it had chocolate in it... very bad for doggies. I can't wait until it gets warm - I'll get more ice cream then! Yummy!

So, mom is still really busy with work, photo stuff and school. She always studies, but she likes school and wants to do really good. She sometimes takes a break and hangs out with me. In fact, it's bath day tomorrow. I'm still not sure how to feel about the bath thing. Mom says I'm a good girl because I stay still, and then when I'm done and mom dries me off, I run around the house like a crazy dog for about 20 minutes. I guess I kinda like 'em. I got into a trash bag the other day... it had lots of stuff from the fireplace in it, so I got a little sooty. Mom called me Pug-A-Soot. Daddy left it out, so he got in some trouble, too. Oops!

My granny is coming up next month to visit - YAY!! I love to see my granny! She always brings me new socks to play with. Sometimes she even brings me yummy treats. The BEST stuff!!

Well, not much else going on in my pug world. It's been cold and snowy lately, so I can't go outside much. Actually, I'm not a cold kinda girl. Hot, either.

Pug Hugs and Kisses!

Stay Warm!

Wow! I've been a BAD Pug!

I haven't posted in a really lllooooooonnnggg time! It's kinda hard to do that sometimes, when my mom has to help me. She's been so busy lately, then the howlidays came up and she's been working and going to school... and she always manages to take time to hang out with me! That's the BEST part!

So, let me tell everyone this first:

I also hope everyone had a VERY Merry Christmas. I got to go with mom & dad to see the grannies. I had lots of fun and got some great toys and treats!

I went to see my new vet the other day. Mom's happy about that, since she had been wanting to switch my vet for a long time. She didn't like the other (too expensive) that much. But, our fave vet there left and went somewhere else. Enough said!! Our new vet is less expensive and closer to the house, too. Daddy took me to get an ice cream after we got done, so he took a photo of me!! Mom says it's her absolute favorite picture...

What do you think???

I promise to write more soon!!! Stay warm!

Hugs & Pug Kisses!
